How to get here
BY CAR
There are two routes you can take to reach Powell River by car & ferry, one is via the Sunshine Coast and the other is via Vancouver Island. Please use the BC Ferries website for further information & travel planning: www.bcferries.bc.ca
Sunshine Coast Route:
Enjoy a pleasant and scenic drive up the Sunshine Coast! The trip will take about 5 hours including 2 ferry rides. Take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale (Gibsons) and follow the signs to Hwy 101/ Sunshine Coast Hwy approx. 80 km to Earl’s Cove where you will catch your second ferry to Saltery Bay. Powell River is about 45 minutes north of Saltery Bay along Hwy 101/ Sunshine Coast Hwy.
TIP: for a more scenic route, turn left from the Langdale ferry terminal and go through Gibsons Landing, a quaint seaside village that many people will know as home to the classic 70’s Canadian television program The Beachcombers. While there, stop in at Wild Bistro & Bakery www.wildbistro.com and pick up some delicious coffee & baked goods for the road.
Vancouver Island Route:
From Horseshoe Bay or Tswassen, catch the ferry to Nanaimo and drive north along the Island Highway approximately 100km to Comox/ Little River where you will catch the ferry to Powell River/ Westview.
TIP: for a more scenic route, watch for signs to the old Island Highway 19A. It will make the drive longer so make sure you don’t dawdle too much & risk missing the ferry; however, the spectacular water-side scenery will make the extra time very well spent. Remember to have your camera fully-charged for ample photo ops!

For those who are unfamiliar with Powell River, it is a town of about 30,000 people located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada about 135km from Vancouver. The drive to Powell River from Vancouver is about 5-hours and requires two ferries, or you can fly from YVR south terminal in about 30 minutes.
